IPL Photofacial in Seoul for Sun Spots and Redness
IPL photofacial uses filtered broadband intense pulsed light to fade sun spots, freckles and diffuse redness for a more even complexion, usually over three to five sessions with minimal downtime. At The Heal Dermatology Sinsa Main Branch in Gangnam, Seoul, a board-certified dermatologist checks whether your skin type and pigment suit IPL.

How it works
Unlike a laser, IPL emits a broad spectrum of light that is filtered to target melanin and haemoglobin at the same time. Pigmented spots darken and flake off over about a week, and small vessels are gradually reduced. Settings and filters are chosen according to skin tone and the main concern.
Who it's for
It is commonly used for sun spots, freckles, mild facial redness and general photoageing in lighter to medium skin types. It is usually not the first choice for melasma, which can worsen with heat.
What to expect at The Heal Sinsa
Every visit to The Heal Dermatology Sinsa Main Branch, on the 7th floor of Sinsa Square near Sinsa Station, starts with a 1:1 consultation with a Korean board-certified dermatologist and imaging-based skin analysis. Your doctor checks whether IPL Photofacial actually suits your concern, explains alternatives honestly, and chooses conservative settings. Treatment is done in a private single room, and English or Traditional Chinese support is available on request. Before your visit, note your current medicines, skincare products, allergies and previous procedures so the doctor can plan safely. Pricing is confirmed after consultation; see pricing and payment. Availability of specific devices varies by branch – confirm at consultation.
Sessions & downtime
- Sessions: typically 3–5, about 3–4 weeks apart

- Results: progressive evening of tone across a course
Risks & who should avoid
Possible effects include redness, swelling, blistering, temporary darkening or lightening of skin and, rarely, burns or scarring. Risk is higher in tanned or darker skin. Avoid during pregnancy, with active infection, recent sun exposure, melasma as the main concern, or photosensitising medicines unless your dermatologist advises otherwise. If you notice increasing pain, spreading redness, blistering, discharge or fever after treatment, contact the clinic promptly and read what to do if complications occur.
Planning around your trip to Seoul
Darkened spots are small and usually easy to cover, so IPL suits a short trip. Avoid strong sun and heat in the days afterward. Read treatment before a flight and how many days to plan, and visit international patients or getting here before you book.

Frequently asked questions
Is IPL a laser?
No. IPL uses filtered broadband light rather than a single laser wavelength. It can treat brown and red concerns together, but it is less targeted than a laser, so suitability depends on your skin type and pigment.
Can IPL treat melasma?
IPL is generally not the first choice for melasma because heat can trigger rebound pigmentation. Low-energy toning or other approaches are often preferred. Your dermatologist will distinguish melasma from sun spots before deciding.
What should I avoid after IPL?
Avoid sun exposure, saunas and hot baths for a few days, and do not scrub off darkened spots. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen daily and a gentle moisturiser until the skin settles.
